Franz Peter Schubert was born on January 31, 1797, in Vienna, Austria. He was the twelfth of fourteen children born to Franz Theodor Schubert, a schoolteacher, and Elisabeth Vietz Schubert. Schubert displayed a remarkable musical talent from an early age, and he began composing at the age of 11.
In 1813, Schubert entered the Vienna Court Chapel Choir School, where he studied composition with Antonio Salieri. He left the choir school in 1817 and began working as a teacher. However, Schubert's true passion was music, and he continued to compose prolifically.
Schubert's music is known for its melody, harmony, and emotional depth. He wrote in a variety of genres, including Lieder (songs),symphonies, chamber music, and operas. Schubert's most famous works include the "Unfinished Symphony," the "Trout Quintet," and the song "Serenade."

These friends included the poets Johann Mayrhofer, Franz von Schober, and Johann Ludwig Deinhardstein; the painters Moritz von Schwind and Leopold Kupelwieser; and the musicians Joseph von Spaun, Anselm Hüttenbrenner, and Franz Lachner.
