Materials
- Worsted weight yarn (approximately 200 yards for baby size, 250 yards for child size, 300 yards for adult small size, and 350 yards for adult large size)
- Size US 7 (4.5mm) circular needles, 16" or 24" length
- Size US 8 (5mm) circular needles, 16" or 24" length
- Yarn needle
Gauge
20 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches in Rib Stitch
Sizes
- Baby: 14" circumference
- Child: 16" circumference
- Adult Small: 18" circumference
- Adult Large: 20" circumference
Instructions
Baby Size
- With US 7 needles, cast on 96 stitches.
- Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
- Work in Rib Stitch (k1, p1) for 10 rounds.
- Change to US 8 needles.
- Work in Stockinette Stitch (k every row) for 5 rounds.
- Work in Rib Stitch for 10 rounds.
- Bind off all stitches.
Child Size
- With US 7 needles, cast on 112 stitches.
- Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
- Work in Rib Stitch (k1, p1) for 10 rounds.
- Change to US 8 needles.
- Work in Stockinette Stitch (k every row) for 5 rounds.
- Work in Rib Stitch for 10 rounds.
- Bind off all stitches.
Adult Small Size
- With US 7 needles, cast on 128 stitches.
- Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
- Work in Rib Stitch (k1, p1) for 10 rounds.
- Change to US 8 needles.
- Work in Stockinette Stitch (k every row) for 5 rounds.
- Work in Rib Stitch for 10 rounds.
- Bind off all stitches.
Adult Large Size
- With US 7 needles, cast on 144 stitches.
- Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
- Work in Rib Stitch (k1, p1) for 10 rounds.
- Change to US 8 needles.
- Work in Stockinette Stitch (k every row) for 5 rounds.
- Work in Rib Stitch for 10 rounds.
- Bind off all stitches.
Finishing
- Weave in all loose ends.
- Fold the brim of the balaclava up to cover the forehead and ears.
